Prompt to edit video with AI
Copy the prompt that turns your computer into a video editor you operate by chatting. Automatic captions, cuts and effects, no editing software.
9 min readA video editor you operate by talking
This prompt sets up, inside your own computer, a vertical video editor that follows written instructions in Portuguese. You say "cut the part where I stumbled", "put that sentence big on screen when I mention the price", "make it faster" — and it does it.
Anyone recording for Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube knows the bottleneck: recording takes five minutes, editing takes three hours. It is repetitive work that eats the part of the day you could spend with a client instead.
The prompt below is free, but running it is not: it needs a paid Claude plan. It is not a course or a program to buy: it is a text you paste, and it installs everything on its own, even for someone who has never written a line of code.
What you will be able to do
- Captions appear on their own, word by word. The video is transcribed on your own computer, and captions come in synced, with the spoken word highlighted in another color.
- Repetitions disappear without you hunting for them. You read what you said, written out with timestamps, and say what to remove.
- The key sentence becomes big animated text on screen, at the exact moment you say it.
- Silence between sentences gets trimmed without the video sounding breathless — the cut leaves a deliberate gap before each word.
- You see it before waiting for the whole video, through a live preview in the browser.
- From the second video on, it already knows your style. Decisions get written down in a file, so you don't explain everything again.
What you need
Less than it sounds: a computer with Windows or Mac (nothing powerful required), Claude Code installed with an Anthropic account on a paid plan, and your video, straight from your phone's camera.
Claude Code is free to install, but editing a real video — several rounds of back and forth, transcription, rendering — uses far more than a free account usually allows. In practice you will need a paid plan (Claude Pro or higher) to finish without getting stuck partway through. Check the current plan and price at claude.com/pricing before you start.
You do not need editing software, you do not need to know how to code, and you do not need to install Python or anything like it. The prompt handles installation on its own.
One thing that saves quality: don't send the video from your phone to your computer through WhatsApp. WhatsApp recompresses it and you lose most of the quality, irreversibly — no editing recovers it afterward. Use a USB cable, Google Drive, or send it through WhatsApp as a document, not as a video.
The prompt
Create a folder on your computer, put the video inside it, open Claude Code in that folder, and paste the text below as your first message.
The prompt itself is written in Portuguese on purpose: it is what makes Claude Code walk you through the whole process in Portuguese, which is what most people following this guide need. It still installs and edits the video the same way regardless of what language you speak — you are just pasting text, not writing code.
Me faça estas perguntas, UMA DE CADA VEZ, esperando minha resposta antes da
próxima. Não siga adiante até eu responder todas:
encontrar nesta pasta e me deixe escolher pelo número)
2. Esse vídeo é para qual rede? (Reels/Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts,
LinkedIn, ou mais de uma)
3. Sobre o que é o vídeo, em uma frase? E qual é o meu ramo?
Preciso destes:
remotion, @remotion/cli, @remotion/captions, @remotion/install-whisper-cpp,
react, react-dom
demorar, e me diga quanto já baixou enquanto roda.
Me avise, e me ofereça a alternativa: eu gero a legenda de graça
@remotion/captions e segue o resto normalmente.
me pergunte:
Escrever "eu
atrasado, e um corte apertado come a primeira letra.
Diminuir a fonte deixa ilegível no celular.
me diga o endereço para abrir no navegador.
Nunca me
How to run it, step by step
- Install Claude Code. Download it at claude.com/claude-code, install it like any program, and sign in with your account.
- Create a folder somewhere easy to find and put your video inside it.
- Open Claude Code in that folder and paste the prompt.
- Answer the interview. Six questions, in plain language.
- Wait for the setup. The first time takes a while, mostly downloading the transcription model, which is over 1 GB. It only happens once.
- Say what to cut and what to highlight, reading the text of what you said.
- Approve and render. You get a version to post and a lightweight one to watch on your phone.
From the second video on, steps 1, 2, and 5 no longer exist.
The rules baked into the prompt
The part that makes the difference is not the installation — it is what the prompt forbids. Every rule came from a video that turned out badly and had to be redone.
Captions never sit behind anything. Sounds obvious, but it is the most common mistake: a decorative element sits on top, and anyone watching without sound loses the sentence.
Screen recordings don't work in vertical video. A computer screenshot shrunk into a corner of a Reel has text a few pixels tall on the viewer's phone. No crop fixes that — either the screen shows up large, or the information gets rebuilt as video text.
On-screen text can't claim more than the person actually said. If you say "I liked it" and the screen writes "I loved it", you lied to whoever is watching — and that is the kind of thing that costs trust.
An image enters on the word that names it. A one or two second delay between saying something and showing it already feels like an editing mistake.
Nothing covers the face. No element can cover eyes or mouth. Running out of space? Shrink the video and open room for it — don't stack things on top of the person.
Who this is for
Works for anything spoken in front of a camera. A few cases where the difference shows up fast:
- Lawyers and accountants — explaining a change in the law without turning it into a boring lecture
- Aesthetics and dental clinics — showing a procedure with captions, since almost nobody watches with sound on
- Personal trainers and nutritionists — a series of short daily tips cut from a single recording
- Real estate agents — narrating a property with the information written on screen
- Shops and e-commerce — presenting a product with price and terms highlighted
- Consultants and agencies — turning one recorded meeting into several short videos
- Restaurants and bakeries — a recipe with the steps appearing right on cue
- Teachers and course creators — splitting a long class into cuts for social media
If it gets stuck
Paste the error into Claude Code and ask: "I got this error, fix it for me and explain in plain language what happened."
The weakest link is installing the transcription tool. The prompt already tells it to give up quickly and offer the alternative: you generate the captions for free on an online service, download the .srt file, and hand it over — the rest continues the same way.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Answers to what people usually ask before trying this.
How much does it cost?
The prompt itself is free, and Claude Code is free to install — but that is not the same as editing for free. Editing a real video uses a good amount of conversation and processing, and a free Anthropic account usually cannot keep up. In practice you need a paid plan (Claude Pro or higher). There is no separate editing software cost, subscription, or license — the only thing you pay for is the Claude plan.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. The prompt was written assuming you have never programmed. It installs everything on its own and explains each step in plain language.
How long does it take?
The first time, 30 to 60 minutes, mostly waiting on a download. After that, a video comes out in a few minutes.
Does it work on Windows?
Yes, and on Mac too. The prompt detects your system on its own and installs whatever is missing.
Are my videos sent to some server?
Transcription runs on your own computer — the audio never leaves your machine. What travels is the text conversation with Claude, same as any other use of it.
Does it work for my field?
It works for any video where someone talks in front of the camera. The initial interview asks about your field precisely to adjust language and pace.
What if I want something the prompt doesn't do?
Just ask Claude Code directly, in your own words — it adjusts. If what you want is a workflow built for your company, with your identity and integrated with what you already use, that is a custom project — talk to our team.
Can I use this for my clients' videos?
Yes. Plenty of agencies use it exactly this way: one long client recording becomes several short cuts the same afternoon.
No question found for that term. Try another word — or talk to our team.
Not every question fits in a list. Reach out to our team and we'll answer directly.
